Kinematics of young stars ? I . Local irregularities

چکیده
The local velocity field of young stars is dominated by the galactic rotation, the kinematics of the Gould Belt and the nearest OB associations and open clusters, and the kinematics of the spiral structure. We re-examined here this local velocity field by using a large sample of nearby O and B stars from the Hipparcos Catalogue. The high quality astrometric data are complemented with a careful compilation of radial velocities and Strömgren photometry, which allows individual photometric distances and ages to be derived. The Gould Belt extends up to 600 pc from the Sun with an inclination with respect to the galactic plane of iG = 16-22◦ and the ascending node placed at ΩG = 275-295◦. Approximately 60% of the stars younger than 60 Myr belong to this structure. The values found for the Oort constants when different samples selected by age or distance were used allowed us to interpret the systematic trends observed as signatures induced by the kinematic behaviour of the Gould Belt. The contribution of Sco-Cen and Ori OB1 complexes in the characterization of the expansion of the Gould Belt system is also discussed. We found that a positive K-term remains when these aggregates are excluded. From the kinematic behaviour of the stars and their spatial distribution we derive an age for the Gould Belt system in the interval 30–60 Myr.

متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملStellar Kinematics from Hipparcos Proper Motions
From Hipparcos proper motions, we have analyzed the local kinematics of the Milky Way from the young O-B5 stars, classical Cepheids, and the late-type K-M giants. Comparing the derived results, the kinematical discrepancies between each subset of stars have been analyzed, and the possible reasons for the kinematical di erences have been discussed.
متن کاملA Volume-limited Sample of 63 M7–m9.5 Dwarfs I. Space Motion, Kinematic Age, and Lithium
In a volume-limited sample of 63 ultracool dwarfs of spectral type M7–M9.5, we have obtained highresolution spectroscopy with UVES at the Very Large Telescope and HIRES at Keck Observatory. In this first paper we introduce our volume-complete sample from DENIS and 2MASS targets, and we derive radial velocities and space motion. Kinematics of our sample are consistent with the stars being predom...
متن کاملEvidence for Tidal Effects in the Stellar Dynamics of the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present a combined analysis of the kinematics of the Large Magellanic Cloud through its H I gas, carbon stars, and red supergiant stars. After correcting the line-of-sight velocities for the recent accurate measurement of the LMC’s space motion, we find that each kinematic tracer clearly defines a flat rotation curve with similar shape but different amplitude for each tracer: 61 km s for the...
